Southern Ground Hunting
It’s the rut in Kentucky!!! Parker goes back to the Bluegrass State in search of redemption from a big buck miss during the early September bow season. He goes to a new public land area with super steep terrain, trying to key in on rut funnels and pinch points. With loads of hunting pressure, it seems that the kayak is going to be a solid option to get into areas where the deer may be getting pushed.
This is a short video outlining Parker’s Nucanoe Frontier 12, and how he has it set up for kayak hunting during the 2020 deer season. The transom makes the NU F12 a special boat because it can take an outboard motor up to 2.5 hp. I have the Yamaha 2.5, making this hunting kayak even more versatile.
Parker heads back into public land in Alabama. The hunting has been tough, with hurricane weather pushing through all weekend. Luckily, the rain breaks for an afternoon hunt, and the biggest doe he’s ever killed decides she wants to blow 10 million times… that’s a good way to get gone!
It’s finally opening weekend in Alabama and things get started super slow! Early season has never been this early, and public land food sources are different than what we’re used to for the opener. With very few acorns dropping, Parker has to adapt to find where the deer are hanging out. Maybe another deer will get a ride in the kayak this week!
Early December is the best time to catch heavy rut action in Alabama. I decided to kayak to my honey hole spot, knowing that a shot opportunity would be a high possibility. This area did not disappoint! Tag punched on a great Alabama public land 8 point!
